Devo Brings the Cosmic De-Evolution Tour to Chula Vista

Devo came to Chula Vista on the Cosmic De-Evolution Tour, a co-headlining run with The B-52s that ended the next night in Palm Desert. DJ Cummerbund opened the shows.

Devo’s 14-song set started with the new-wave hits. “Don’t Shoot (I’m a Man),” “Peek-A-Boo!,” “Going Under,” “That’s Good” and “Girl U Want” came in quick succession. “Whip It,” the band’s only Top 40 single, followed, and “Planet Earth” closed out that opening run.

The middle of the set went back to the late-’70s debut material. “Uncontrollable Urge,” “Blockhead,” “Mongoloid,” “Jocko Homo” and a “Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA” medley led into “Gates of Steel.” The show ended with “Freedom of Choice.”
